Hjarnø Havbrug has recently established a large mussel farm with 100 smart units in connection to their aquaculture plans. The background is their focus on research and development to achieve zero impact on the environment. As part of its own pilot project, the Åland Government has cultivated mussels on a larger scale since the summer of 2010. Now, in November 2012, these mussel have grown big, or as big as they get in the low-saline waters of the Åland archipelago, and they are ready to be harvested.
